United Way Recognizes Leadership Donors
February 20, 2007 - The United Way of Greenwich held its annual Leadership Recognition Event at Children's Day School in Riverside on Thursday, February 8th. The event, which was generously underwritten by PNC Wealth Management, welcomed almost 120 people to the School.
Children's Day School in Riverside served as the backdrop for this important United Way event in recognition of the many years the two organizations have worked together to meet the early childhood educational needs of the Greenwich community. Formally known as the Junior League of Greenwich Childcare Center, the Riverside site of Children's Day School was established five years ago as a partnership of the United Way, the Junior League and Children's Day School. The project was one of several in which the United Way devoted significant resources as part of its early childhood initiative, intended to increase the availability of affordable, high quality, full day pre-school programs for Greenwich children and families.
This event recognized the outstanding generosity of the United Way's Leadership donors those contributing $1,500 or more annually. Contributions from these individuals accounted for almost 75% of the $3 million raised last year by the United Way of Greenwich. This year, thanks to the generosity of many new and returning contributors, Leadership donors have helped the United Way of Greenwich raise more than $2.4 million thus far. The United Way of Greenwich 2006-07 Campaign will run through June 30th with a goal of $3.1 million.
In its 74th year, the United Way of Greenwich is a leader in town in identifying and meeting the health and human service needs of our community. Each year, over 500 United Way volunteers led by the those on the Board of Directors -- document local needs, develop creative solutions, coordinate the delivery of services, and raise funds in an annual campaign to provide much needed support for local services. The United Way Campaign is the largest non-government source of funding for health and human service programs in Greenwich.
