United Way Septemberfest 07 Taking Shape!

August 31, 2007 - What's the best way to mark the end of the summer, welcome friends and neighbors back to town and celebrate all that the Greenwich community has to offer? Come together at the 35th annual United Way Septemberfest. This year's event is scheduled for Sunday, September 16th at Roger Sherman Baldwin Park. The free community festival runs from noon to 5:00 pm rain or shine.

Septemberfest is geared to all members of the family and promises something for everyone. Entertainment on the showmobile will include Greenwich's own Allegra Dance Theater, a special presentation by the students of the Greenwich Japanese School and the very popular Foxtrotters. Special free headliner entertainment will feature the award winning and nationally known Swingset Mamas, performing at 3:00 pm.

The United Way is extremely pleased that this year's festival will include participation, displays and/or activities from more organizations than ever before. Among the many displays and creative activities provided will be a dunking booth staffed by the Junior United Way, tie-dying by the American Red Cross, the Amazing (live) Horseshoe Crab by Soundwaters, a Fire Truck provided by the Greenwich Fire Department, fingerprinting and identification kits by the Silver Shield, animals available for adoption by Adopt-A- Dog, and Greenwich Skateboard Team demonstration. Additional activities and information provided by many of the United Way's partner agencies, as well as, the Historical Society, League of Women Voters and the Greenwich Department of Health. Though time is running out, other local organizations interested in participating at Septemberfest should call the United Way.

Perennial Septemberfest features will, of course, be available, including the eclectic and always popular Japanese Bazaar, and the children's favorite - pony rides and petting zoo. Additional details about some exciting new features will be available in the days leading up to the festival.

Septemberfest would not be possible without the co-sponsorship of the Greenwich Department of Parks and Recreation and the enthusiastic support of the Greenwich Lions Club. Greenwich Hospital is this year's generous presenting sponsor. The entire festival is coordinated by veteran United Way volunteer and local realtor, Sally Parris.
